State of Fortune
Escape Velocity was one of my favorite games growing up. State of Fortune is my attempt to honor it. One pilot, six factions, and a long mystery to uncover.
The pitch
I spent a lot of late nights as a kid playing Escape Velocity. State of Fortune is a single-player 2D top-down space opera I'm building to honor that. You explore systems, fight when you have to, trade between worlds, upgrade your ship, and follow a storyline through whichever faction you've thrown in with.
What's there
A curated megagalaxy with lore tuned to each of its six factions: the militant Iron Quorum, the corporate Trust, the Cartographers (who'd rather survey than fight), the Resurfaced (who'd rather hide than be seen), the quiet Drift Compact, and Concord, the by-the-book peacekeeping force everyone has opinions about. Each one has its own background, its own ships, and its own AI.
Ship customisation is visible. Two pilots flying the same hull class can look completely different: weapons mount where you bolt them on, engines glow with the colour of the drive you fit. There's a long mystery buried in the world, slow-burning, environmentally seeded, that rewards players who pay attention across factions.
